urban

The Empire State Building -- for this week's PhotoFriday challenge, "Urban."

which way do we go

This perfectly illustrates where our country's at -- just as many support the war as protest against it. I'm in the latter category.

before and after

The Empire State Building changed to a red, white, and blue color scheme after we declared war on Iraq. (It's to show support of our troops.) Here's how it looked before and after our declaration of war.

yellow haze

OK, gang -- tell me what that yellow cloud looks like! I'll start: All of Manhattan has farted in unison! Your turn...

it was all yellow

One of those moments where I said, "God, I'm so glad I have a camera handy." This was taken in front of Penn Station -- the cab line was up and running, and students were embarking on a school trip. Colorful chaos.

boxcars

I shot this at my local train station. I've always been fascinated by how things get shipped from one place to another. The fact that there are standard shipping containers that will work on a train, plane, or boat is the coolest thing -- the logistics are boggling. Yes, I'm a geek. :)

accidental carousel

I double-exposed this shot -- it was at the end of the roll. This was taken in a local mall; you can see both the carousel and the exit (at the right).

glowing

Rockefeller Center. The building is always lit up this way; if you're in Midtown at twilight it glows against the sky.

two views of times square

I had to run an errand near Times Square the other night -- the views were too good to pass up!

sky light

Taken in my train station parking lot. I almost missed my train for this picture!

monolith of midtown

The Empire State Building is one of my favorite skyscrapers -- which is a good thing, since I pass by it almost every day. I never get tired of looking at it in all its "moods."

gloomy day

Look, ma, it's an Ingmar Bergman movie! I drove M crazy -- for some reason, I was obsessed with capturing the green of the traffic lights that day.

staring out the window

Here's a shot of the Hillside Maintenance Complex for the Long Island Railroad. It's where the trains get fixed, cleaned, etc. You can see my train car lights in the shot -- I liked it for the industrial look.

on the six

Don't mistake me for J.Lo, now... :D A shot I took on the "6" subway line, midtown Manhattan.

lots o'liberty

The Empire State Building has, as you can imagine, many souvenir shops both in and around the building. This grouping of Statue(s) of Liberty caught my eye.

green cube

A building on 33rd is constructing a new reception area -- the front desk is lit with green lights from below. I also managed to pick up reflections of the street.

big sky

I took this from the front seat of our car -- the sky had really interesting patterns all day.

god owes me money

There's a person running around Manhattan calling themselves "Neckface," and doing themed batches of graffiti. I'm guessing it's a student from the School of Visual Arts (SVA), since it's mostly seen around SVA buildings. This one, by the main building over on 23rd, is particularly amusing.
